When we look at the situation, the fact is the employees have given so much in the past. A number of things we negotiated for were not implemented however we never made a big issue about it because the management said they did not have money. Therefore a number of benefits which we negotiated for on behalf of the employees which were agreed to, were not implemented. To now come and tell us that you are going to lay off workers is a hard pill that we have to swallow,” he said.He said the Union indicated to the management of the Corporation that they would not support any moves to lay off staff. He also noted that enough was not being done to ensure staff remains employed.“When we go around we see that there is a lot of work that public works can do. Look at the conditions of our roads. We see port holes around the country. We are saying that we have given so much. We are seeing also that there are certain things which must be put in place to ensure that the public works can get work but there are not putting in place,’ he said.Dominica Vibes Newslast_img read more
