Avram Grant to meet local coaches today for first of many coaching courses

first_imgBlack Stars coach has Avram Grant has outlined plans he has put in place for the development of the local league as well as coaches in the country. The Israeli trainer who was mandated to upgrade standards of local coaches as part of his job as head coach of Ghana has earmarked plans to achieve this goal.“We need to put few targets, first improve the pitches. The pitches is not for technical players. It does not cost a lot of money, sorry to say.”“Second is courses. I organize courses few months ago. I organize more than this. We have a collaboration with the league and Managers association (LMA) which I agree with them about three waves of courses in Ghana, in England and the diploma but everything costs money.”“So the people in charge, not just the GFA, I brought them everything and they are trying to do it.”“They really want to do it but they need to find the money and then we will improve.” The first of such courses the Israeli will have with local coaches will be held on Friday at the Alisa Hotel in Accra. According to the GFA, the seminar will enable the senior national team boss share ideas with coaches of the various Premier League clubs.Grant signed a 27 month contract with Ghana which started in December 2014 and has been widely criticised for his lack of commitment to staying in the country to do hands-on work.–Follow Joy Sports on Twitter: @Joy997FM. Colts have title they can call their own

first_imgCOVINA – Sharing the Valle Vista League title last season with rival San Dimas didn’t sit too well with the Covina High School girls basketball team. The Colts did something about it on Tuesday night with a resounding 47-32 win over the visiting Saints. Covina clinched the outright league title with the victory and upped its stellar record to 24-1. “When we get that kind of production from two kids who are coming back next year, we’re really excited about tonight and next year too,” Gustafson said. “We just do a good job of understanding that Blaire is a good player who gets a lot of attention and it frees up a lot of people. “It makes everybody’s job a little easier, because Blaire is special and they have to guard her.” Covina honored Egardo later Tuesday with a ceremony that included a banner depicting her jersey hung in the gym at halftime of the boys’ game. The two-time league MVP likely cemented her third consecutive award, but Gustafson noted that the playoffs remain on the horizon. “I think our team is better than last year,” Gustafson said. “I think we can do some damage in the playoffs, but it’s just going to depend on matchups. We can play with anybody in our division.” [email protected] (626) 962-8811, Ext. 2233 160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong. The Colts got more than enough inside, however, with post players Ashley Adams and Chantel Diaz having their way against San Dimas’ frontcourt. “They have the best two post players in the league,” San Dimas coach Gary Jackson said of Adams and Diaz. “We tried to make it a little bit harder for them, but they’re more offensively skilled. If Blaire’s not on, they can always go inside.” Covina didn’t shake San Dimas until the third quarter. Leading by only six at halftime, the Colts relied on defense to pull away in the second half. That meant shutting out San Dimas in the third quarter while the lead reached double figures. Adams and Diaz combined for 21 points, 21 rebounds and 12 blocked shots. center_img “Last year San Dimas got us over there in a game at the end (of the season), so it’s nice to be able to win it outright,” Covina coach Greg Gustafson. “Our goal has been to go 1-0 every night and 10-0 in league. We put ourselves in position to do that going over to Northview.” Like last season, San Dimas figured to be Covina’s only competition in league. But the Saints didn’t come close against the Colts in two games, losing by 13 in January and 15 on Tuesday. last_img read more
