Additionally, in the third quarter wholesale trader confidence increased by three index points to 50 – the same as that of the first quarter of 2010. “According to Statistics SA, the volume of retail sales increased by 4.9% year-on-year during the second quarter. The BER’s retail trade survey indicated that the growth in sales subsided during quarter three,” it said. 17 September 2010 Survey shows ‘mixed results’ During the third quarter, the semi-durable goods sector – which comprises mainly clothing, footwear and textiles – performed impressively. The non-durable (food, beverages and toiletries) and durables (furniture, household goods and jewellery) sectors weakened unexpectedly. The majority of respondents said that sales volumes were lower than a year ago. This is while a lack of pricing power put further pressure on retailers. A majority of 16 percent of respondents indicated lower rates of increase in average selling prices. The BER added, however, that the survey had shown mixed results. “The results indicate that the recovery in the retail sector remained on track, although areas of weakness persisted,” the Stellenbosch-based BER said on Thursday. “These lower rates of increase in selling prices, together with the lower growth in sales volume, adversely affected retailers’ overall profitability” said BER economist Craig Lemboe. The BER said that business confidence among new vehicle traders rose by 30 index points to 79, which exceeded expectations. “This to a large degree explains the steep rise in business confidence.” This as durable and non-durable goods traders indicated that the growth in sales volumes and the pace of average selling price increases was much slower than anticipated on quarter two. Wholesale trader confidence “The rise in business confidence was mainly driven by the consumer goods sub-sector, which includes goods such as textiles and clothing, footwear, food, beverages and tobacco, household requisites and pharmaceuticals,” said Lemboe. Confidence among retailers grew by 14 index points from 38 to 52, meaning that the index almost reversed all of the losses seen in the second quarter. Source: BuaNews Business confidence among South African retailers improved in the third quarter of 2010, says the Bureau for Economic Research (BER).
Barcelona coach Valverde: Malcom can offer us something differentby Carlos Volcano10 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveBarcelona coach Ernesto Valverde insists he’s happy with the progress of three of their summer signings.Valverde discussed Malcom, Clement Lenglet and Arthur yesterday. He stated, “Lenglet already knew LaLiga which is an advantage to get used to the rhythm of the matches. Also to the demands that are in defence. And for the injuries he has become indispensable. “Arthur’s case is different because he did not know LaLiga and he played at a different pace. But he has fit very well because his characteristics conform to the style of Barça.”On Malcom, he added: “He is a player who has not participated as much as the other two but is a forward, good at one against one and scoring. He is different. Hope he helps us. The injuries have burdened him but we believe he has a future ahead of him.” About the authorCarlos VolcanoShare the loveHave your say
The biggest obstacle Memphis must overcome to contend for a title is its barely above-average offense. The Grizzlies took the second-fewest threes in the league last season, which should have limited them to the highest-percentage shots, yet they still ranked near the bottom of the league in accuracy. And for all their low-post strength, they hardly ever tried to dunk. The Grizz usually have to find points the hard way, which eventually undid them against Golden State last year — their effective field goal percentage was well below the worst regular-season mark in the league in each of the series’ last three games. The same weakness could undo them against the very best Western teams in the playoffs again. With the help of CARMELO, here’s what’s in store for the key Grizzlies in 2015-16: Since coming to Memphis from Boston, Courtney Lee has been a solid but unspectacular No. 2, with good shooting efficiency and few turnovers — but also a low usage rate. On this veteran team, few veterans are as veteran as Zach Randolph. He showed no ill effects of aging last year — instead, he got better. Players like him, though, usually drop off quickly after a decade or more of low-post wear and tear. We’re inaugurating our NBA player projection system, CARMELO, with 2015-16 season previews for every team in the league. Check out the teams we’ve already previewed here. Learn more about CARMELO here. To bolster its veteran-heavy, defense-heavy, frontcourt-heavy roster, Memphis added … two veteran defensive forwards. Matt Barnes has aged well, as his 3-point-heavy style often does. Another former Celtic, Jeff Green was a regular contributor last year. But his days of above-replacement-level contributions could be over. The Memphis Grizzlies have emerged from the NBA-best West to reach the playoffs in eight of 15 seasons, including the last five. This past spring, they played the Warriors as tough as anybody, forcing Golden State to come back from down 2-1 in their conference semifinal series. This year, the Grizzlies have a good chance to reach 50 wins for the fourth straight season, thanks mostly to their defense. They’re strong and deep in the low post, they have a core that has played together for years, and they’ve added more than they subtracted in the offseason.FiveThirtyEight’s CARMELO projection system expects them to go 51-31. Always a top-notch defender, Marc Gasol is increasingly comfortable shouldering a big part of the Grizzlies’ offensive load. He used the ball — shot it or turned it over — on nearly a quarter of possessions last year, while increasing his shooting accuracy and assist percentage. Is he on track for more improvements, like Larry Nance, or a Brad Miller-like rapid decline? Mike Conley remains Memphis’s best offensive player, but his defense has dropped off in recent years. He’s playing fewer minutes, and, when he’s on the floor, he’s getting fewer steals — which we like quite a lot around here. Brandan Wright should guarantee little defensive drop-off when he spells starters, but he’s another low-usage, high-efficiency player on offense. Memphis has too many of those and not enough players setting them up.Read more:NBA player projections2015-16 NBA Previews
Jamie Redknapp voiced his opinion on what exactly do Manchester United need in order to challenge reigning winners Manchester City, and he thinks it is just a single player. The Red Devils emerged from sixth to second in the Premier League in this season alone and the fact that if they were able to get 81 points in total, they would have been able to win the tournament recently became public. However, they lost to all the three new clubs in the Premier League and fell 19 points behind City, as well as being knocked out of the Champions League at the last-16 phase.Maguire says United need to build on today’s win George Patchias – September 14, 2019 Harry Maguire wants his United teammates to build on the victory over Leicester City.During the summer, Harry Maguire was referred to as the ultimate…“They finished second and could win the FA Cup but let’s face it… this is one of the most boring United teams,” Redknapp admitted of United’s football this season, according to SportBible.“They signed off the league season with a 1-0 win over Watford that was shown last on Match of the Day. If Jose Mourinho wants to change that, he should go and buy Gareth Bale.”“He has won it all at Real Madrid and won’t be fazed by the Premier League. United won’t be the only ones after him. If Eden Hazard goes to Real Madrid, I’m sure Chelsea would be keen on a swap deal,” Redknapp went on to add.
England have just confirmed their squad numbers for the 2018 World Cup, with Jordan Pickford taking the No.1 jersey, according to Standard Uk.The numbers do not assure who will be a beginner against Tunisia in England’s opening game, not since the 1970 World Cup have the Three Lions fielded a starting XI numbered 1-11 in their first match of the tournament. However, giving Pickford No.1 Jersey, Gareth Southgate’s has made his decision clear that the Everton shot-stopper is the leading contender to start in goal. Arsenal manager Unai Emery insists his team’s stuttering start to the season won’t stop him from overhauling their style of play. The Gunners have lost their first two games of the season to Manchester City and Chelsea, and the former Paris Saint-Germain manager has come under heavy criticism for changing the club’s style of play.Where Wenger demanded Arsenal played an all-out attacking system that often left them vulnerable at the back, Emery favours a high-tempo pressing game. The Spanish boss also prefers his goalkeeper and defenders to start moves with passing from the back, even when under pressure from opponents. This has led to Arsenal putting themselves in difficult positions at times, but Emery is adamant the issues are just teething problems that will soon resolve themselves.“In our process, we are going 38 matches against all the teams — whether you are playing againstManchester City, it’s the same as if you’re playing against West Ham on Saturday,” he said, as quoted by France24.Merson believes Arsenal should sign Sancho Manuel R. Medina – September 14, 2019 Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho might be the perfect player to play for the Gunners, according to former England international Paul Merson.“There are three points on this game. It’s clear that every game demands different things tactically.”“After the first two matches, we have two defeats and we need to win this match against West Ham.”West Ham’s visit gives Jack Wilshere a chance to prove Emery was wrong to let him leave.“I spoke with him for 15 minutes here in Colney before he left,” Emery said.“The first thing for me is I have respect for his career here. And then, he chooses what the best was for him in his future.“On Saturday, I know that here, the supporters like him and have this respect also. I think there is a good reception for him here.
Former Scotland defender Gary Caldwell has advised Alex McLeish’s men to maintain their energetic performance in subsequent games.Scotland secured their second win in 2018 by dispatching Albania thanks to goals from Steven Naismith and a rare own goal from Berat Djimsiti to seal a 2-0 win.“The team right from minute one played with energy and I think that has to be the style,” Caldwell told BBC Scotland.“When you have John McGinn, Callum McGregor, Andy Robertson, Kieran Tierney – the first thing you think about those players is energy.Report: Euro 2020 qualifying Group H George Patchias – September 11, 2019 Euro 2020 qualifying Group H is being controlled by France and Turkey, but Iceland is still in with a shout.Reigning world champions France ran…“They played on the front foot, they were aggressive, they tried to play in Albania’s half and they did that for all of the first half and most of the second half and got their rewards by playing with such a high tempo.“Albania are better than they looked because of the way we played. They couldn’t cope with playing at the tempo.”The Scots bounced back from the 4-0 loss to Belgium to win their first group tie in the Uefa Nations League.
“Today the governor kicked off the budget process with his recommendations and shared several interesting ideas with our committees. Now it’s our turn to take a hard look at each proposal and make sure to budget every taxpayer dollar in the most efficient manner possible. I appreciated Gov. Snyder’s commitment to paying down our debt and making sure that our state is prepared for emergencies that could arise down the road.“As chairman of the subcommittee on Michigan State Police, I look forward to working with the governor on improving public safety throughout our state. Hearing plans for additional troopers and an additional trooper school was encouraging and I hope we can find a way to ensure these and other public safety initiatives are included in the budget.“I’m also glad that we’re finally having the conversation about fixing Michigan’s roads and bridges. This discussion has been put off for too long and the people we serve are counting on us to find a way to improve our system. While I appreciate the governor’s ideas, I strongly believe we need to look at all options and find the best solution possible to this problem. Categories: McCready News,News 07Feb State Rep.
