Peru to Host XXI South American Cadets Sports Festival

first_imgBy Dialogo October 26, 2012 The XXI South American Cadets Sports Festival was inaugurated in the city of Lima to establish unity and fraternal bonds between military institutions of member countries of the South American Military Sports Union. The Peruvian Navy will host this sports event, in which 546 athletes from eight delegations will participate. The event will come to an end on October 28, and it will encourage the practice of sports, especially those that can influence positively the military training of future officers. The opening ceremony took place in José Díaz National Stadium, and the Minister of Defense Pedro Cateriano was present, along with the Navy’s General Commander, Carlos Tejada Mera, the president of the South American Military Sports Union, the president of the Military Sports Federation of Peru, and other high political and military authorities. The nations participating in this event are: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela, and they will compete in various sports such as: Military Pentathlon: Rifle Aiming, Obstacle Course, Utilitarian Swimming, Grenade Launching, Cross Country; Shooting: Carbine Prone, Rifle Prone, ISSF Carbine 3×2, ISSF Rifle 3×20, ISSF fast precision pistol; Swimming: 50-meter freestyle, 100-m freestyle, 50-m breast stroke, 100-m butterfly, 4×50 m freestyle, 4×100-m freestyle, 4×50-m combined style, and 4×100-m combined style; Fencing: foil, sword, and saber; Athletics: high jump, long jump, triple jump, shot put, discus throw, javelin throw, 100-meter race, 200-m race, 400-m race, 800-m race, 1500-m race, 3000-m race, 5000-m race, 110-meter hurdles, 400-m hurdles, 3000-m obstacles, 4×100-m relay. It is important to mention that the South American Cadet Sports Festival is performed every two years, and the country that chairs the South American Sports Union is also the event host, a post which was designated to Peru from 2011-2013.last_img read more
